Not a combination that had ever crossed my mind, but this one popped up on my FB today (no idea why, I'm not in the group!) and I really like it.

I'll admit my initial reaction was what on Earth were they thinking? but in fact she looks a nice useful type. It may help that I believe the Clydesdales bred in the States are often a bit finer than the ones we have here. Given how popular Shire x TB used to be as a large hunter I probably shouldn't be so surprised at a nice cross!

You are mirroring my own train of thought exactly, except that I didn't know Clydesdales in the states are finer. But 'What?' followed by 'Well .. I suppose.. ' is where I went.

@Jane&Ziggy I'm not much taller at 5'5". Maybe it's because horse wise I grew up on a yard that bred RIDs and I handled them even as a kid so I see them as normal. I would admit to Jim being 16.3 but truth told we'd never have got him under a stick at that and he was a type that was becoming harder to find even then and is far too scarce now, a lot of the modern ones are more like the IDxTB that was bred back when I first knew them. So 15hh is small to me, and Little Un at 14.1, well there was a reason for that name!

Robin is 16.2 and feels normal to me. Under that is small 🤣

I think some ride bigger or smaller than others too. Luka rides big for his height since he has a long neck (not that he looks like it), a big stride, and takes up the leg - I've ridden 16.2s that feel smaller and there are a lot of 15hh-ers I wouldn't ride because I feel too big on them. Jim was like a moving mountain, he was definitely ridden on his tolerance 🤣

@Jane&Ziggy I love pony character which is why I love Welsh and their "right" crosses, also the bright IDs as opposed to the more normal ones (though that can be entering the territory of the horse providing the muscle and the brain, where does that leave me?). Welsh Ds really ar an adults pony 🥰

The bottom line though on any size is temperament.
What goes through the mind goes through the body and out of the hooves.
Mine would behave the same if she were a Shetland and being nearer to the ground she could be harder to handle than she is currently.
Mine gets cross and has a temper, not what you really want in a cob!!

And I think that's the thing with my choices, they always have a strong personality and plenty of fire in the belly. Kind though, always kind.

And I love my Arabs, but seeing that mare she makes me want to ride in a cowboy saddle over mountains and through streams, checking on my livestock, then drive her to the store to pick up my groceries, material and patterns for making the family clothes. I may be stuck in a mashup of The Horse Whisperer and The Waltons.
