Chunky Monkey gang

We went through this with my own mother. The difficulty is that carers and care homes are arranged through the local council or are private and there may be charges to the user, but the NHS is a separate national organisation and dont charge for bed or food.

Gosh, given the other hospital said there are untreated issues that need addressing I think I would be insisting on speaking with someone senior on Monday before bringing her home, though I’m sure they will say that’s not an option, perhaps go to PALS (patient advice liaison service) and get them to help you navigate the system.

She got moved back to the rehap hospital yesterday. a&e did absolutely nothing. Inspite telling me they had carried out tests. They did nothing of the sort. They have not treated or provided any medication to help the unaddressed issues. The rehap hospital have said its going to be a struggle to even begin rehap.

The rehap hospital told me that this also happened to another patient they had last week. a&e did nothing for them and they were even more critical. So you can guess what happened to that patient. There are some very serious failings going on. It seems like if your old, your of no use, so better to be 6ft under.

3 weeks ago she could still walk. Unfortunately i dont think she can now. Its a struggle to stand. If she has lost the ability to walk, it will be unlikley she can return home.

No her bloods show she still has infection levels that needs treating but there not giving any more antibiotics. Low protein levels which mean that her skin is oozing fluid and cannot heel. With low protein she will have no energy to do the physio. So they cant really do physio until her body drys up. Shes now developed a rash steadily getting worse all over her body. Which i believe is a sign of liver sclerosis. All this stuff needed addressing before sending to the rehap hospital. She also started bleeding from her mouth. Whilst the bleeding stopped her mouth inside is roar. Shes also been catheterized since going in.
As far as home care. District nurses were struggling to even do once a day to dress her legs and ulcer. Mums body leaking means she needs constant changes of bedding, nightdresses. The hospital are struggling to cope with it. So they just seem to play pass the parcel.
The whole thing is a nonsense.

With that level of problems and such high care needs how could the hospital have even considered sending her home, never mind calling you to say pick her up? I do hope they don't try to do that again unless she's a lot better.

There going to try at the community rehab hospital to look after her for a bit. If she gets bad and her vitals go crazy they will have no option but to send her to a&e again. There not equip there. She'll see the the Dr tmw. Theyll try to work out a plan.

Well at least she's still in the system so they have to do something, I fear that if they'd managed to get her home you'd have struggled to get her re-admitted even though there's no way you could cope at home.

Thanks for asking. She was in a foul mood last night. Didnt really want to see me. So tonight for the first time since shes been in hospital i havent gone to visit. My brothers been. I shall go tmw as hes got his works do.

Apparently shes in a better mood today. The hospital staff also seemed to be off last night when i asked for info. Each member of staff said they werent designated to her. No wonder she said to me she felt like shed been ignored.
They are restricting her fluid intake to see if it makes any difference. Having been told to drink as much as possible to get the liver and kidneys flushed and stable, they now want to try experimenting to get the body leakage down. They also arranged for someone from podiatry to look at her awful feet and tidy them up. So hopefully now they have been addressed she will feel a bit better when she stands up.

Big hugs to you, sometimes they take it out on th epeople who are closest to them because they're a safe target who they know won't leave even if hurt. A night off will do you good xx

In amongst everything else im dealing with. Cows had the TB test this week. This morning they got the all clear from the vet. Can forget about that for another 6 months.

Saw mum tonight, she was in better spirits. She never mentioned me not visiting yesterday. She also mentioned lambing in two weeks. I informed her lambing wasnt till March. So Im now trying to work out if infection is returning or she has dementia rapidly setting in. Nurse indicated that levels were steady according to her last bloods but im not convinced. Im certainly not being told all as i found out tonight shes been started on vitamin D tablets. No idea when that happened.

Fluids are being restricted, mum was told 1.5 litres by the Dr. The nurse told mum its 500ml for the day. Mum argued with the nurse. They even gave her a jug with a red lid and labelled it 500ml at 9am this morning. Yet on the wall notes by her bed it clearly says restricted to 1.5 litres. Next theyll probably tell me shes dehydrated or shes refused to drink.

My quietest, most lonely christmas ever. Guess its something i will have to get use to. Did go and see mum on Christmas Day. Had a little runny nose, thought my autumn hayfever was plaguing me again. But no it was a cold. The third one in 3 months. So ive had time to myself. In bed with tissues and the mother of all headaches. Should have gone to work today but had to cancel. Managed to go out and do the animals but then straight back to bed. Head is feeling a little better but have absolutely no taste or smell.

Quiet Christmas’ can be really tough. And a cold must have really put an extra damper on it. I hope the new year brings brighter things for you x

Aw lots of vibes for you, I am sorry to read you felt lonely and to make it worse a cold. Boo hiss, so unfair. You don't need that do you. Take it as easy as you can and I hope things improve lots for you. And I hope your taste comes back soon - least then you can enjoy some food (chocolate!). xxxxxx

OH went to elder daughter's today to feast on goose bought specially for me. But I stayed home with a bad cold. Have felt miserable over Christmas. And worried about probelms of mounting the horse.
