Hi all

Putting this message here to see if anyone can assist me. I have qualified to compete in the RDA National Championships for dressage. I live in Northern Ireland and borrowed a horse to ride in the qualifier competition last week. Much to my surprise I won both classes so have qualified to ride at Hartpury on 13th July.

Now the problem is that the horse I borrowed is too old to travel such a distance so I need to borrow a horse in England in order to compete. Does anyone know someone who might lend their horse to me? I'm a grade IV rider so need to do a 'medium' dressage test. I'm a competent rider and the physio who did my assessment is happy to assure an owner that I would not hurt their horse - I can also provide photos of me on my own horse and a friends. I compete at riding club level on my horse (can't use him in the competition as he doesn't 'do' dressage) at showjumping and eventing so an owner shouldn't be worried about my ability.

Just trying to explore all avenues as I'll probably never qualify again.

Thanks for all help

would it be worth contacting an RDA group near Hartpury? see if they can help or know anyone who can?

you could have J, but i think you'd have to carry him round rather than the other way round! :D

Hi my horse is competing at the RDA Nationals too. The best thing I can recommend is to get in touch with the RDA directly and speak to some one concerning loaning a horse. I know it can be done, i'm sure as they loan horses out to visiting nations at the nationals. I would be quick though as entries close soon, I think.

Well done for qualifying and good luck in your search :)

That's really great to hear. I've been told that he is 16.2, bay with a hogged mane due to sweet itch - is that the same horse?
I went to a local lady today for a lesson on one of her horses so that I can practise the test - he was fabulous. 17hh, grey with a fantastic movement. I have to work very hard to get canter as I haven't figured out how to sit to his huge trot yet - but next time I'll go on the lunge for 10mins and see if I can work it out.

hello

Hi Im also competing in nationals at hartpury, with avon group in the open grades 1-5 test 32 (Im grade 3 but we didnt know for sure until quite late so as Id trained for this test I did it instead of grade 3!). I know groups have bene asked to state if they have horses other people can ride if they cant bring one so Im sure somebody will sort for you to have a good horse. One thing you cna do is ride lots of different ones now to get used to riding strange horses and getting the best out them quickly so come the competition whatever you are riding you will be better able to adapt to it :)
GOOD LUCK _Im on a bright orange chestnut in the above ttest if you spot me with Avon, on the sunday.

Hi 3mily

Yes it was me and yes- the cup is massive. Easyjet were very good to allow me to take it as hand luggage as well as the bag that i had.

I was soooooo nervous but once I turned up the center line I became very focused on what I had to do and I worked hard to not allow him to do any flying changes (he had done it every time in practice).

I don't know whether I managed to breathe at all during the test as I was completely exhausted at the end!!! But it was worth it all.

I had a great time.
