Benefits of rolling the toe

Depends on the shape and state of the hoof, but in a horse with a long toe, and many horses, especially shod ones have that, it will bring the point of breakover back closer to where it should be. The horse will then be able to move more freely and correctly. Bit like us wearing shoes a size or two too big. My horse went from regular shoes to rolled toed Natural Balance shoes and it made quite a difference to her.

Wild horses living in rocky semi desert conditions roll their toes naturally.

Horses often develop over long toes with incorrect or infrequent hoofcare and shoes. Naturally, if they're on hard ground, their toes will be short and 'rolled' so there's no unhealthy leverage forces working to separate the laminae. Backing up a toe &/or rolling the front of the shoe brings the 'breakover' - the point where the foot pivots on to take a step - back to where it should be. Bit like the difference between running barefoot or in flippers, depending on the severity of the problem.
