Any ideas how i can stop buckets freezing?

My water buckets keep freezing in the stable any ideas how i can stop it? Its only Jaspers at the moment i think its because he doesn't drink as much as Jen.

I have tried packing round it with Straw but he thinks its a game and digs it back out. I can't use towels or anything as he drags them round his stable and mashes his poo into them

Get an old tyre and pack that with straw, then put bucket in - works a treat!

Our buckets have a "nest" of old hay round them (we have no straw!) and tennis balls in them !

a tennis ball sounds a good idea. I'm hesitant to put anything in his stable as he plays with everything but he could play with a tennis ball to his hearts content

Football if the bucket is large enough. Rambo almost swallowed a tennis ball once because he was bored ...

ahh good point. Think its a bit small for a football, will see if i can find something inbetween in size

Someone on our yard swears by putting oil in the water bucket -just veg oil- hers hasn't frozen yet and it's been quite chilly in Lancs!!

What about putting some apples in the bucket?? Good tasty treat for the horse and can act as a game for them too. It works for me!!!
