And we’re there...

I nearly didn’t ride today, but as I went back to finish up I decided a quick ride would be good.

As I went up the drove I met various dog walkers, all in dark clothes and only 1 with a torch 🙄 thinking how silly (it’s a single track road with no footpath)

Then in the forest I see some reflective coming towards us, it’s only my neighbour on her dark pally, in a navy rug and the only hi viz was her tabard 🤯

We carried on to the target of our little excursion 😁
He’s such a good lad, he’s grown up so much 🥰

Lovely lights! What a good lad. Its amazing how many folk walking either have hardly any or no hi viz on. There's a busy road near me and I see same folk regularly with none at all.

I rode in the field again today, somehow Monkey was even slower than last time 🤦‍♀️ I could not get any kind of tune out of him and I was really only trying for a half decent walk, trot was almost impossible!

It was to the point I got off after 15 minutes and put him on the lunge to try and pep him up a bit! And even that took a pop on his quarter sheet for sound effect to wke him up. He did some decent work eventually but by eck!

Only just noticed your saddle, and the way the back comes up - is that because its a treeless (or is it not treeless?) Just being curious.

I got Monkey out tonight but procrastinated for too long so it was right at dusk, but that made the light stunning 😍

And the boy was keen to go, I even had to stop him from cantering (the ground is still frozen) which is unheard of!

And on the last stretch home the naughty ponies decided to run alongside us and after an initial jump he managed to keep it to a walk, miracle!!

And we got back just as the moon came up

Saddler was coming today, but snow put a stop to that 😞 so I thought I’d ride out as it’s so pretty.

Monkey had got into no-mans-land and got himself wound up when Jess came to get breakfast and it’s that snow that packs in their feet but I was still hopeful if I greased his feet it would be ok. As I was doing that some snow fell from the tree outside the barn and he turned himself inside out so I decided it was probably not worth going out while he’s wired! Maybe later 🤞

Things were much calmer when I went back at lunchtime with water, the taps were frozen and the little boys only had solid ice left!

I took Monkey out, I started in hand, we only have 100m of tarmac then we’re onto sand tracks and it wasn’t bad going so we continued to the forest. It was well worth it 😍

Too many pictures to choose from!

It was beautifully quiet in the forest, we crept past a herd of deer sheltering deep in the trees and bracken, they just stood watching us 🥰

The sky looked heavy as I was leaving, I suspect we might get more snow tonight

The weather has been a real mixed bag this week but I’ve been at work for the worst of it, and today I set off in sunshine but it soon clouded over, got misty and damn cold!

Monkey makes me laugh most days, today was torrential rain all day and they shirked both shelters and stood out in it, then when he tried to eat his dinner he got all upset about the water running down his face, shaking his head, scratching and snorting at it 🤣 I had to towel dry his head so he could eat, he’s such a pathetic twit sometimes! 🤣🤣

Aw poor Monkey, I can't fault him. I'm not keen on water running down my face either.

AJ is as bad with snow. When it snowed a few weeks ago I called the horses in for tea. Raf made a dash for it, out of the shelter, across the field and onto the yard. AJ kept trying but every time he put his head out of the shelter the snow hit his face and he jumped back snorting. It took him quite a few attempts to pluck up the courage, and he was quite distressed about the whole situation.
