Am I making excuses?

We’re meant to be heading to the coast tomorrow-Saturday, and I am a little anxious that the 1hr20m drive will be the furthest I’ve taken Monkey, but I was determined to go.

But now the forecast is for rain and gusty winds of 35/36mph and I’m not sure I want to risk towing in that, but is it just an excuse? Am I just talking myself out of it 🤷🏻‍♀️

My car isn’t a big beast, just a Tiguan (small SUV), I’m well within tow weight but it’s not as heavy as some. And camping in rain and wind and trying to ride 8km to the beach and on the beach in less than favourable conditions, not sure how much fun that will be! I don’t want to let my friend down but….

I think you're being sensible, notmaking excuses. It's one thing towing in that if it's an emergency - though even then I'd try to get a lorry - but Icertainly wouldn't do it for a fun ride with a friend that's probably not going to be much fun anyway. Maybe ringher and say how about you and her get together without the horses?

I don't think you are making excuses either. Definitely being sensible. Sometimes you just know - and I think this is one of them. You're a great rider and Monkey is in good hands and all of that, but, I honestly don't see the point in pushing luck when you can do it another time. Better safe than sorry and all that.

Just to convince you you've probably done the right thing cancelling.
We've got some strong winds here tonight, not exactly the worst but strong enough, most likely what your getting tomorrow.
I've just been out to walk the dog and as I walked through the trees I heard a big crack. Turned round to see a rather large branch fall. If that had been 5 seconds earlier it would have been my head.
Oh and the winds we are getting now were actually forecast for us this morning. So 12 hour delay.

We've had 37 mph guests today and the beach was deserted apart from the kite surfers.
Poor visibility and I wouldn't want to be on a horse in those conditions.
The was nobody swimming between the flags either.

Sensible to cancel

This is why there are no trees where I live. I miss them terribly, but given that our wind speed is rarely much below thirty in winter and spring its probably safer. We do get calmer days of course, but I can see now why there are next to no trees. I live opposite a field and at the back of it there's what folk grandly call a woods. To me it would just be a small copse of trees. I have a strong desire to go and touch them. I so miss having any. Glad you were okay though!
