A plea for help

I don't usually post in this section of the board as I am an "elderly novice" but fortunately fit and able-bodied. I have a younger friend of 41 who has had a stroke. As a girl, she kept horses and is an experienced rider. Unfortunately she now has a paralysed right arm and a very weak right leg.

She really wants to get back into riding so I'm wondering if any NR members know of a riding school in the south London area who can cater for disabilities? I've asked at my RS but they can't help.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hiya, can't help i'm afraid - up Norf! But i'm sure someone will be able to on here! Another thought would be to go to the RDA's website - it lists all the places that do RDA.

This link should take you to the London groups - there seems to be a few in South West or South East Ldn, or you/she could ring the county chairperson, number on this website too.

Hi,
I think there is a place near in or near Wallington, Surrey. Believe the word Diamond is in the name but not entirely sure.
RDA should be able to help though, as suggested above.

She might also be able to find non-RDA centres who can help. My husband is also semi-paralysed (left arm and leg) and learnt to ride at the yard where my kids go; he enjoyed every minute and did very well. You do need to find a good teacher, which may be harder in non-RDA schools, but it's not impossible.

Glad your friend is going to start riding again; my OH has also been learning to drive too.
