Mare being extra mareish!

My 5 year old mare does not normally have bad seasons, the odd “off day” but nothing concerning. I just wanted to see if anyone has ever had issues with a mare having a very bad season coming into winter months, I have had people saying she could be having a last spout of hormones which is why her season may be worse than normal. Her behaviour is very much normal In every other sense, eating drinking pooing as normal, still comes from other end of field when shouted, still has her normal stable manners etc however she is just very grouchy! She has her ears pinned back when i am grooming her body and has tried to attack the sweeping brush multiple times, she is far more argumentative with the mare next door also. Like I say she doesn’t normally have bad seasons at all and this is far worse than I have ever experienced with her. Has anyone else ever had this? I am keeping an eye on her for the next few days and if nothing improves I will get her checked over by a vet however for the time being she is completely normal in every other sense apart from her extra grouchy behaviour!

I may add she has just swapped routines for winter, during the summer she is in during the day and out over night with regular exercise for weight management (this works for us and as I know this is a debatable subject) and then she switches to out during the day and in during the night over winter with far less exercise. I changed her routine 2 days before her this behaviour started, she is a very routine horse so this could also affect her!

Thank you In advance

My mare seems to get extra hormonal for the first and last season of the year, which results in dramatic grouchy behaviour. I'm not sure where you are, but here in east anglia (england) we seemed to go from summer straight into winter in a matter of days last week and this has also made my girl Hangry, despite masses of haylage. She's definitely in the mood where you have to watch your back around her at the moment!

Thank you for your response, I’m also England and she does seem to be eating a lot more! I

Funnily enough Iv just added an extra net into her stable for tonight after noticing she was eating more than usual and more excitable over her breakfast so this sounds like we could be in the same boat!

She seems much calmer this morning so hopefully we are on our way back to normality x
