So who went to Your Horse Live last weekend? What did you think?
I had a fabulous weekend. I went with my 8 year old son. We got there at 10am on Saturday and watched Charlotte's demo first. I really liked the way that she talked through her dressage training from simple to complex but always in a way that I could understand. I came away feeling that Ben and I could be international dressage superstars.
We then went to the other arena to watch the showing demo with Lynn Russell and thought it was funny how rude she was to the volunteers. She told someone they needed a bigger showjacket and saddle because she was too big for it, and also commented that it was good that another rider found boots big enough to fit her wide legs.
We watched Russell Guire from center biometrics which was really interesting. I have friends who spend about £90 for 45 minute sessions with him and I can see why. He talked about the importance of walking your horse for 20 minutes to loosen up and how small positional changes can influence the horse.
We also saw the end of the parelli demo and then watched Kelly Marks do horse agility which was also good and very relevant to the work that I do with Ben. It was interesting to watch her body language and made me vow to ride Ben in his dually instead of a bridle every so often.
At the end of the day we saw the stunt demo in the main arena. We sat right at the front and saw how all they do is loop there leg through one leather strap before flinging themselves from side to side. It is really dangerous but very captivating. My son loved it.
We then drove to a nearby hotel and ate fish n chips in our hotel room and then went to bed watching X Factor. It was so much fun to spend time alone with my big boy.
On Sunday we went back for 9am (we had a weekend ticket) and went shopping while it was quiet. I got boots for the whole family and some other bits and bobs. We then watched Paul Tapnor and Ben Hobday do an eventing demo in the main arena. This was great and I picked up some interesting jumping tips.
We then went and listened to a lady who was a 'horse healer' and heard her tales about how she had healed horses suffering from ailments. I am not sure if I believed what she was saying or not. I would have liked to chat to her more but my son was getting bored.
We then did more shopping, had lunch and went home. It was a great weekend. Did anyone else go? What did you think?
