Hi, I have been on wood pellet bedding for quite a while, we have noticed that every now and then our gelding has a swollen eye, sometimes watery, sometimes not. he does tend to lay down flat in the bedding and often have to brush the bedding off from around his eyes, we flush them out when they appear swollen and it usually goes down by the evening. it is usually one eye at a time and he holds it shut a little. (he has been checked to ensure not an ulcer) has anyone else had any problems with this type of bedding? it would make sense that it could as very very absorbant so if gets in eye presumably can dry it out??
on the good side he doesnt ever suffer from thrush which he was prone to as deep clefts in his heel bulb. thanks

That is a point! I was thinking that it would have been from dust in the eyes but hadnt thought maybe he could be allergic to wood type, although it is quite infrequent (about once every 2wks) only one eye affected at a time and not the same one!!??
