Why do I like being on my own so much?

This afternoon sees me walking 6 miles and getting a bus home just to avoid going to a bbq where I'm now living. I don't know anyone there and won't enjoy it so this seems the easier option. Can't just say I didn't want to go

I might have been 50/50 here.
Food might have won out. I can be tempted to do most things with food. :D:p

I really enjoyed the walk and the bus came straight away when I got to the stop so I took that as a sign I was doing the right thing! I do love bbqs however but would of been too uncomfortable to eat my usual portion haha

I'm another one who enjoys her own time and space. I get quite "claustrophobic" when I've been around people too much - I get grumpy about everything - especially people talking to me and touching me!!

I like social events where I know people, but I don't really drink and I don't like being up late and this really bugs people.

I can't wait to get my wedding pics back, by about 7pm the pics I've seen I am grimacing with having to pose again oops!!

I'm an only child and like time on my own very much. I'm very shy but I am loud to cover it up so people that know me find it hard to believe. Walking into a room full of people - whether I know them or not - is a biggie for me. Dom and I live a very insular life here, on paper, living and working at home but going off-site daily to the yard gives me a chance to be social. Having mucking out to do means that I have the option of "cracking on" if I don't feel like talking - but I have made some good friends there who I am very comfortable with....so I do spend a LOT of time chatting.:p

I do spend a lot of time indoors on my own but I never have background noise. The telly only goes on when Dom comes in and we have hundreds of CDs but no facility to play them any more. Occasionally I might put the Radio2 breakfast show on through the telly. I rarely listen to music in the car either. I like silence. I'm also OCD about tidiness at tge yard, ehich is why I get discounted livery for being the sweeper

Dom and I live a relatively stress-free life here so when events happen I seem to be a lot more affected than when we lived in a town and worked 9-5. A glitch with the car will reduce me to a wailing wreck these days.

I would have done the same a few years ago. Now I realise it wouldn't have offended anyone to either tell the truth and just say no thanks, it's not my thing or thanks anyway but I'm just feeling like having a quiet night. It's a fine line though I always think between thinking you are offending someone or just being daft. I am getting much better at attending social gatherings:Dsince moving here it has been nice to meet new people and there is a really good balance.

From reading these replies some people would love my yard and some couldn't be here.
In peak season we can cater for up to 60 people staying on site and about 150 visiting it.
It's great because the cob does love people and she watches people flying the kites and playing tennis. But by the end of the season the quiet winter is peaceful :D

I think The Cob must be such a great all rounder with all the new and interesting things she sees! It sounds great actually that she can soak up so much.

This is *so* me. I hate that sort of socialising even with people I like and know. I'm happy to sit around with a cup of coffee and natter at the yard, but if they have a BBQ with OH's i'll be busy!
