@Callum1 all your posts have been about what to wear! Nowadays anything safe goes, so if you're starting out a pair of jeans with a bit of stretch in them, boots with a heel, and a riding hat that meets safety standards will be fine and not at all unusual. In fact I know many men who've ridden for years and are extremely good riders who only wear "proper" riding gear for hunting and competing.
Generally this thread is odd (and I suspect nothing to do with riding), but I think the distinction is between English and Western Riding rather than the country
