There's a dealer in Cornwall who does the same thing - do they think that it shows that a. the horse is quite happy to stand still? b. Has a back sufficiently strong to show that a man can stand on it? c. Is wide enough to accommodate a man standing on it?!!!

Standing on could be to show quiet, has done/could do apple picking, no it'll be to show potential bombproof.
