warming up in cold weather

Hi

In this cold weather how much warming up do you do with your horse? I don't want to go straight into trotting, but don't want us both to freeze while we do some work in walk! How much walking do you do before you start to trot when it's this cold?
Also, how much work do you do on bigger circles and shapes before you start doing smaller circles and lateral work?
Thanks

I'm quite lucky in that we have around a 15 minute (uphill) hack to get to the indoor schol, so he is usually more or less warmed up when we arrive but today I walked most of the time we were in there with little bursts of trot but not too many on smaller circles. That's mainly because he's not too fit but with the temperatures today I wasn't even convinced he was that warmed up when we arrived.

Split the difference and had a long trot on the way home.

Obviously do some walk work before you trot but I think trotting a horse is a very good way to warm up actually as long as you take it slowly and dont ask for an outline and really collected or something straight away.
