So had the vet to my lads today for suspected sarcoids in both! And here's what the vet had to say...

Quitus - definately a sarcoid, good news is no others found today, and it is still very small. Goind to keep an eye on it until September when weather cools down and flies are less when he will have it removed by thermocautery and have 2 - 3 weeks off work..

Ace - What I suspected to be sarcoids isn't (YAY!) But vet did find a line of nodules along the line of the sheath which could be sarcoids, bout 7 little nodules under the skin.. He has said in a horse of Ace's age these won't grow at any fast rate and will probably never need removing.. He has suggested keeping an eye on them checking them once a week for changes and then he will check them again in Sept when he comes to remove Quitus' one unless they change..

Now I did ask about herbal treatments and he said they are as unpredictable as the sarcoids themselves but if I wanted to try them I should be advised by a professional herbalist or similar. Anyone got any experience of them?

you know i have.... think caridbach10 and devonlass actually saw maxes sarcoid, they can verify its 100% gone.

vets arnt allowed to say to much about the herbs, its also taking business away from them.

Sarc ex from Global herbs. I used the powder and cream, 3 months and his sarcoids which he'd had for years were all gone - brilliant stuff:)

I tried various herbal and homeopathic things without success. Then I used Global Herbs' Skratch to reduce the amount of fly bites, and it had the side effect of shifting the sarcoids in about 2 months. Far better than any of the proper sarcoid things :D

It does seem to completely depend on the horse and the type of sarcoid in my experience. Also I was told to reduce sugar in the diet as much as possible as that can encourage growth.

I'm not so sure that vets won't talk about herbal options because it takes business away from them. It's quite a specialist field and most vets know absolutely nothing about it at all. Asking them on what would be classed as a professional opinion on something they know nothing about means that they're going to say next to nothing and certainly they wouldn't go as far as to recommend something.

Thanks for all the info :)

Have spoken to someone at Global Herbs who has given me a few options, first of all to give both the boys a kick start dose of Restore liquid to boost their immune systems.. She recommended 500ml each which is good cause a 1L bottle is £30!

Second she recommended the Sarc-Ex cream which is £15 a tub (very reasonable) and said this works best with the Sarc-Ex supplement which is £24.95 and would last them about a month if given 2 scoops once a day, she recommended 2 twice a day but I don't want to feed them twice as they get bolshy in the mornings if they get food when not stabled and then grow to expect it (both don't really need food atm!!)

So all together not too expensive and worth a shot, wish me luck, I will take some pics today of the offending lumps and use this thread to update you all!

Here goes!!

Hi we used equimmune to boost emmune system and ditton cream (now called virex), which contains thuja from Hilton herbs. Can recommend! :)
Although the process was quite slow, it did work and Storm is free from them now.

Not a herbal treatment as such, but try camrosa cream / ointment. I applied it daily to my ponys sarcoid and within a month or so it was gone. Very effective, internet is best place to get it. :)
