Vet bills

Oh I read this as because they are less likely to colic if retired and out 24/7, not what you are suggesting. I do hope people still ring the vets for their retired field ornaments
There are 101 things that can go wrong with a horse when we go home, that's its surprising we take on the stress.

I use Rossdales at Newmarket, a very big practice and referral hospital, often a little pricier than smaller practices but not by much and it works out less if you end up needing referral to a specialist as they have most in house.
Jess colic/breathing problem recently was an emergency call at 8pm on a Sunday night, vet was here for at least an hour, treatment for both issues was £330!
Their normal scheduled call out is about £80, then half price on set days for each area, 1.5x for emergencies and double on a Sunday, it’s the vets overtime rates I guess, I think the first 15 minutes is included but any consult over that is chargeable.
I’m a bit pushy re what they are injecting, I want to know before it goes in unless it’s a real emergency where 1 minute delay could make a difference between saving them and not. It’s because Jess reacts so badly to some things and I don’t want a mistake. They normally do mix as many drugs in 1 syringe as possible to minimise the number of jabs needed, if we have to do multiple separately they will stick in a catheter and inject via that so only 1 prick.
The 100ml x 10 is probably a drug that comes in a 100ml bottle and they administered 10ml of it, that’s how our bills are anyway but I’d expect them to be willing to explain that.

Yes this is similar on some of our vet bills. The vets have to account as well to the powers that be for where all the medicines go.

As a farmer for the cattle and sheep we have to account for all the medicines we purchase and administer to our animals. When we get checked they go through our books to check it matches.
So if we buy a litre of wormer, and only use 2x 15ml doses, we have to either show the rest of the bottle to them or inform them of how it was disposed of and where. To make sure we havent dont anything illegal with it. Its exactly the same for the vets.

Hmmm. I have read the replied ale and i do think that was a bit pricey.
Saying that i used to have and i think i atill have it. A price list for various things so i knew roughly how much things would cost.
When sox waa admitted on one of the many times. I was charged... 17 quid for a nurse to pop a iv line in. 22 quid for a roll of gamgee.

My vets are 48 quid per call out the more horses the less per call out. Cosultation is... 35 i think. So your already looking at 80 quid before injections etc.

Out of hours its 110 call out and 40 quid consult. If i remember rightly when sox has had colic its normally been around 300 to 350 when he has been treated for gassy/ spasmodic colic.
