My horse had the farrier this morning and I brought him in from the field this evening hopping lame. Managed to get him to the stable and put a thick deep bed down for him, had a feel of his hooves, left one very hot, right one warm, cant feel any pulses but he has that much feather this is a difficult thing to feel for anyway!

He really didnt want to move so Ive given him a bute and will go up first thing tomorrow.

Farrier just this second rang me back to apologise and he's going to come up first thing tomorrow.

My poor baby, hate seeing him in pain, its horrible!

Nail bind? Where the nail is put in a touch too close to the sensitive lamane, usually hopping lame for 24 hours then sound, although also sound if farrier removed and replaces shoe with nails in correct slightly lower place.

My old share horse had this one, hopping lame in walk and then sound 24 hours later!

Went down first thing this morning and he seems better, walked him out to have a look and he's not half as bad but still very tentative on his hooves.

Farrier down at 10:45 so fingers crossed he fixes the problem and the stray nail hasnt caused any damage!

Farrier has been and redone both front shoes. He apologised profusely and said he's just got a little close to the white line. He said he'll be sore for about 12 hours but he said he hasnt punctured anything.

fingers crossed he's okay this evening...

Thanks for the well wishes, I'll let my boy know you were thinking of him later

He will be fine there isnt a farrier alive that hasnt nipped the laminae, it happens but it is sore on them for a we while. At least the guy came back and said sorry, it sometimes worth while getting the farrier to show you how to remove a shoe it can be a real help if the farrier cant come. You dont need much in the way of tools and they are not expensive for what you would need them for.

Spot on, I have done it once and will go to hell for it!

To be able to take a shoe off in circumstances like that is important. You can buy cheap tools for occasional use and keep them handy. You never know when you might need them. Next time you get him shod ask if you can take off the shoes.....it's well worth the lesson.
