Maybe it should be thirteen challenges, but I don’t want to push my luck. :ninja:

I’ve settled into a nice little routine over the course of 2012, with a mix of hacking, schooling and lessons at a local RS. Aside from time in the saddle and riding some new horses, though, I don’t feel like I’ve made a lot of progress. So maybe it’s time for a change.

Starting from January, I want to set myself a monthly challenge of trying something new, or at least of breaking my routine. Some might be smallish things like booking a lunge lesson at the RS or taking Trouble for a picnic ride. Others will be more adventurous; having a simulator lesson or maybe trying Western.

So, could I have some suggestions please? They don’t have to be too sensible – I will work out later what is practical and what isn’t. Oh, and I’m planning to start a diary too, so if you want to read about how Feawen was bested by a mechanical bucking bronco then now is the moment to suggest it…:smile:

What a good idea"
I'm talking to myself here too but how about a jump lesson, or try a new discipline like Le TRec or horse agility and more groundwork, go on a sponsered ride or have a go at an endurance ride. Are there any places you feel you can't go, I.e. spooky places you would like to beat? Learn how to give horsey a massage..........
Ooh you have inspired me now

Canter bareback
Ride on a beach
Organise a horse-back treasure hunt
Ride to a pub and let the horses graze on the green outside
Enter a dressage comp
Have an Equisimulator lesson
Watch a demo
Go to Your Horse Live, Olympia and/or HOYS (as a spectator!)
Learn new skills: plaiting/clipping/first aid/whatever

Have fun!!!

I dont think I believe in risk taking or progress.
I do believe in following up a real interest in something? Being inquisitive -
Or specialising?
Or going to a different specialist riding school to ride a particular type of horse?
Ditto - to learn from a particular teacher or trainer?
I did those things -

I have "lost" the two dear horses I have ridden for most of the last eight years and it had crossed my mind to go off and do something wild?

My own dream was to canter a figure eight with a flying change in the middle - which the local school horses havent been able to do for years.
And now perhaps I am too old.
