Travelling smallies

Those of you with smallies how do you travel them? Went to a pony party today and he ended up wandering around in trailer - he has go under breast and breech bar in new ifor, pushes the rubber flaps up on partition and appears in silvers bit and can turn around in his half of the trailer.

We leave ours loose. We have an Ifor Williams cattle traler with a middle partition, we put some in the front, close the partition, and then some in the back and let them wander at will.

They all find a comfy position to stand in.

we had ours modified to take two lower heights on the breastbar ( Cheval trailer), didn't bother with the bum bar as he don't go that far back - Acorns 36" and travels with the top height , we travelled Nuts at 34" with the same position - We have a bugee tie instead of lead rope for tying up which goes downunder the bar - can't get under it and that stops any thought of going over it but can still get his hay.no problem with partions at all as its almost down to floor.

He can't concentrate enough to balance and eat hay net - he will only eat from the floor.

Are they easily modifiable? Or are some better than others?

Wally that is my preference, but not practical when taking other horses - like YO 17hh+ cleveland bay!!! My two together are fine, but he will destroy a nervous traveller in his chaos!

Someone I know has a low breast bar, but puts pony at front of trailer (ahead of breast bar) is this ok? Would mean in future we could put a carriage in the main part of trailer if we ever got that far!

I've seen that done. It increases the nose weight on the tow bar, which is far better than reducing it, but a tiny pony isn't going to upset the balance much any way.

The only thing I would worry about travelling at the front is if he can get under the breast bar iunder the front legs of a much larger horse - I have seen some who have a solid adaption made to the front more like a door than just the bar,
suppose if you did that to both front compartments then travelling at the front
sideways on he ccould be loos so he could have hay and not be able to cause distruption - we went to a fabricator told them what we need and it was fairley simple on ours not sure about the ifors .

a rice would probably work better for what you want - older style - quite a heavy trailer but not so narrow at the front -if you where thinking of being able to put a trap in as well then you could solid partition across the front to keep hoim safe.
Ours is quite narrow at the front - saying that when Charlie jumped the breast bar he did fit in it - just!

if we are travelling just one then we travel without the partition in place and have a full length breast bar - tried to take some pics of our conversion but camera seems to be having a bad day - eats batteries it would appear.

I like the new herringbone trailers, bit out of my price range, but great idea!
