So we had our spring vet visit for the masses at our barn. They try to do about 3 visits of about 15-20 boarders each - in addition to the schoolies in other visits.. (holy smokes, big barn IMO) I bought my horse in early july so not sure what he's had done or not.

In the fall I had him looked over and fall shots, it was determined (by vet) he didnt' need floated. Over this winter he's been shaking his head. I planned on dental work, whatever that other vet said at last barn.

This dental specialist vet said "I can't tell how long he's been needing done but he's really long overdue." he said his teeth were long overdue for floating and I feel awful it got that bad.

Then when the girl went to do his sheath, she just used a bucket of warm water and dish soap.. and charged 25 bucks! (when we're getting all this other stuff done) Well, lesson learned.. do it myself next time. overall the bill was over USD 250ish for shots, sheath and floating. I didn't mind that so much, but the dental dude was over two hours late.. we all took off work hanging around for this guy. I was at the barn for 6 hours!

I mentioned he guards one side, and requested a flexion. It turned up everything's hunkey dorey there, but she started checking his vision and one eye looks to be getting abnormal blood supply on lower part of (cornea? she said?) and that testing his vision seem to conclude great vision at the top, but bottom right side has a large area that isn't visible to him. She asked if he turns his eye full on me on that side, and sure enough, he does.

Today, after all that work yesterday, he's a SLUG! So I only hand walked him a bit and checked his temperature, etc.

Stinks, doesnt it? But, its unfortunately very common. Life as a horse owner...
