I got bucked off Thursday night and you should see the bruises not including my bruise pride. My neighbor and I have been going to the local arena to ride about twice a week . If it's not crowded my horse seems to enjoy it but if there are more than say four others there riding Jasmine hates it. It's not a large arena and it's indoors so lots a loud noises. The problem is that there is a round pen at one end and it's great for longeing but a some people like to longe their horses in the arena and I really dislike it. It really seems to make my horse nervous and she has a hard time focusing on me. Anyway this woman was longeing her horse in the arena and so Jasmine was getting upset with the rushing horse and the cracking whip when a mule outside let out the most awful braying noise and Jasmine spooked and started bucking . I think I probably could have stayed on but I just kinda gave up and let go. I managed to land well at least not with my arms braced and out but curled up. It's the first time I've ever come off of her so I guess I've got that first fall out of the way I think we are going to just ride at home for awhile and get my confidence built up again.
I was at a course and I had just got on my horse when he started to buck and I came of and landed on my feet and then sliped in the grass and fell on my ass (cool it rymes).
It's the first time i have fallen off him and i put it down to being in a new environment (he's only been out twice) and the girth was pinching him. Very scary isnt it. Its the first time a horse has goten me off my doing something nasty rather that a spook.
You are very lucky you dident hurt yourself more. I sprained both my sholders and have bruises every were i dont qute understand how i got them because i dident land badly.
Ohboy First fall... now you can get past the "I've never fallen off" stuff. Welcome to the post-fall world.
Good luck with building yourself back up again. And it sounds like there's a good way to avoid what happened that time: just don't bother to stay if it's crowded or someone is lunging If it makes her that uncomfortable, there's no real point in being there--she's not enjoying it, and you probably aren't either.
Have fun riding at home. Is there any time you can go ride when there aren't likely to be other people there?
Waikato I hope your healing up. I've been really sore all weekend and the bruises are really really ugly. I didn't feel up to even trying to get on this weekend. I did go out today and do some of the Parelli games with her and lunged her a little while. I get over how sore I am . Galadriel thanks so much for your sound advice. You are so right in the fact that if she isn't enjoying niether am I. I really didn't even want to go the other night I was tired and not really up to it. I really don't enjoy the arena at all but felt like I should get more experience at it. you have to realize I'm in Cowboy country and everyone seems to want to push you. I really just enjoy riding around the the farm fields but people are always saying you got to this and that. I'm like I got her for the pleasure of riding around our fields not for barrel racing and pole bending. I've made my own trail course here at home and we do go around the barrels and pole bend but at our own speed and without an audience. I really feel that at the arena I'm being judged about every move we make. I know it's probably all in my head but it still feels that way. Thanks for all your support.
Oh you always know how to say just the right thing It' always helps to have someone else say it for you. I have wonderful neighbors right next door that are fun to ride with and we just head out down the country roads and over the fields. They are planning to build an arena in the near future and that will be great for us in the cold winter months. I did talk to my trainer that I worked with last summer and she agreed to meet with Jasmine and I at the local arena should we choose to give it another whirl. I've also enjoyed doing the parelli level 1 with Jasmine so I think we are gonna just stick with it and good ole home. Thanks again Galadriel you really are a big help to all of us on this board.
Boy you guys weren't kidding when you said it was a bad week for falls..

Oh! yuck 3 months is a long ole time. I hope it goes by fast for you. Around here Fall is really the best time to ride because it's cooler and the bugs have died down and the fields are harvested so there's plenty of room to ride. I've decided to keep taking Jasmine to the arena but start out just doing ground work with her playing the seven games and just getting her use to being around all the action there until she's use to it. Nobody is going to make me ride her there until I feel we both ready for it! I really mean to be firm about this and stand my ground. Today is the best I've felt since the fall. I can actually bend over and not grimace My trainer is trying to talk me into breeding Jasmine to her stud Cisco's Royal Cody. He's a beautiful black Quarter Horse. Sue my trainer events with him and shows him . He's really a wonderful all around horse. So this I might just get talked into. I'll let you all know what I decide. Here's to healing well and fast.
Boy do I feel good today..ya know it feels good ..just to feel good..!
Now the hard part stay off the horse for 7 more weeks (53 days)
I'm thinking showmanship patterens may be the answer..that way we both will have something to do and keep us thinking...I don't know about you guys but I have a real hard time with the sit and wait part of this..
I know what ya mean TNT about being able to move and not make ugly faces...even my grandkids were looking at me funny..
I too have thought about breeding my BSpaint/QH mare..and if i am ever told i can't ride that will be what I do with her...
Well back to work for me tomorrow..we work 12 hour shifts so this should be a true test of how well I am doing....
take care everyone
happy healing
