I thought this may be useful to other riders with this problem. My horse kicks himself to pieces in the float so we have to put boots, polo bandages and bell boots on him so he arrives in one piece. The problem is that he hates things on his rear legs so cattle strikes with his legs and that's scary when you're crouched down beside it and it's almost impossible to put the boots on. Until now! To stop the horse kicking, I got my dad to lift up the front hoof on the side I was working on. The horse shifted his weight but he couldn't kick me. Mind you he got a bit cranky but we got to pony club and there was no cuts and no blood! Hope this helps.

That trick is also good if you have got to treat a cut leg or something that they don't want you to touch, stops them dancing round and kicking out. :D

My horse just kicks out with boots on her back legs, ive just bought some westropp travel boots for her and she walks just fine with them
