I brought my 16.3 draught horse in yesterday who's not over weight and he was lame. Initially I thought he may have slipped due to bad mud but upon inspection I realised both front legs were lame. When the vet arrived she said she suspects acute laminitis and i' so worried. It';s horible seeing him like this- ive just got back from the stable as I cant bear to leave him. He can hardly move and because he's so big, I can only imagine the pressure on his feet. The vet told me that she wouldn't like to offer a prognosis and I feel sick. He hasn;t improved since last night really- how long should you wait before seeing improvement normally? He got shod for the first time last week- could that have caused it? I just wish I could do more. Could anyone tell me all the things I can do to help please? x
