We didn't have one last month, so thought I would start this months.

My random thought to start it off, I have concluded I am in fact solar powered, all the energy (and motivation) in the world when it's sunny, but as soon as it turns grey I hardly produce enough to make it through the day!

Mostly I think things through, but on occasion I do not.

There was 1 huge burdock growing in the winter field, it was over 6ft tall and just as wide and needed removing so the kids don’t end up covered in burrs when they go in there.

I assessed and decided I could chop it in one and pull the whole thing out to dispose of. Easy, a snip with my big choppers and we’re off. Well, until the whole blinking thing toppled towards me, guess who now has their mane completely tangled in this giant burr bush, yup, you guessed it 🤣🤣 what a prat!

I have declared its autumn. I had to get my woolly hat out the draw tonight. Boys have started having rain sheets on this last week.
Its been rather wet this last week so i moved the boys at the weekend onto the rested patch as the piece they were on was getting slippy where there was bare earth. Thank god i did because it must have got gusty here during the day. I just went out to feed them and theres 3 rather large ash branches come down in the area they had been on till the weekend. I dread to think if Chunky had been stood under them like he had been constantly doing. Not sure he would have been able to get out the way quick enough.

I am still fighting the reality that its not going to be winter soon. Slightly annoyed i had a appointment that emotionally drained me and i fell asleep. So i didnt have time to work sox when i woke up.
Tomorrow i am hoping for a better day and i can get him on the lunge. His left hand side of his back is much better. Just hoping his right side will clear up too. It should do. Giving it time.

I have got very fond of the chickens and all their different personalities. There are Def 3 or 4 who seek out strokes and attention. I couldn't get rid of one today, so I picked her up and cuddles her. Then her friend wanted a go 😍

Temps have definitely dropped this week. Ive woken up several times in the night shivering. So last night the winter duvet came out. Didnt want to get out of bed this morning. So cosy.

We had 4 new POL hens this week - 2 Light Sussex and 2 Bluebell. When we get new ones we keep them in a separate coop and run for a few days, where they can see, and be seen by, the others. Today was letting out day for the newbies. There was a bit of pushing and pecking, but nothing serious. These are the new ones.

Lovely. What colour eggs do they lay? I'd love to have hens again. It would be my aim to get lots of different egg colour laying varieties. We had some surprise colours last time - I hadn't realised they came in anything other than white and supermarket brown.

The Light Sussex we had before laid creamy coloured eggs, and the bluebells a pinkish brown. Most of our other hens lay brown eggs, varying dark to light as they get older. One Tuftibelle lays green eggs; the other one white eggs. This is a typical tray from a couple of weeks ago.

One of my chickens use to lay blue shelled eggs. Think it was the cream leg bar. I had a black chicken but i cant remember its breed.
My bluebells were a bit of a disaster. One died shortly after i got her. The other the fox had about a month later.
