i am new to NR have been reading posts for a while. i am now looking to buy my first horse after being back to riding for 2 years after a 28 year break. hah. can anyone tell me anything about horses from 'safecobs'
thanks have been thinking of buying for ages but just dont want to get it wrong. me and my daughter just want a good steady neddy to hack out on and have fun, after all its a hobby right??

Hi and welcome to NR, there are lots of threads already on Safecobs and MySafeCobs which are run by two different people who started out together but went their own ways - the latter has more of a NH based training (i think)

I don't know anything about either companys other than for a few years have followed both sites. Originally when it was one site and then when it became two site (sad i know) As someone who possibly would want to own in the future i do think that what is on the sites especially mysafecobs gives a sense of confidence. I do think the horse are expensive but as a would be first time owner i would want a near as perfect horse and these horses dependent on description do seem that, i guess you can't put a price on safety.
I'm sure some of the more experienced will be on to give you more info. If you search some of the threads there is lots about buying with RI or friends who know what they are doing.
Good luck in your search

thanks for that hadnt looked at mysafecobs before have been looking privately but due to my experience i think i would feel safer going to a dealer that specialises in 'pleasure' horse rather than buying privately from someone who is selling a super sane bombproof horse that doesnt live up to its name. think i will register with mysafecobs too.

Can't go into too much detail because of slander but I would avoid them if it was me. Sorry.

Hi, I haven't any personal experience, but I'm still on their mailing-llist because I like reading about the horses for sale - Safecobs, and an associated site called Hacking Horses. They've got too many horses at the moment, so they're selling some which haven't quite finished their training, at a reduced price. They say the horses would still be suitable for a novicey rider - I think they would be well worth a look.

Happy horse-hunting!

I have been to Safe Cobs. I didn't buy but I really liked Lia.

Ditto.

She put my friend off the horse she went to see. My friend tried another cob whom she did buy. He was everything Lia said he was including the bits many would find offputting. Exactly as described and they're 3 years down the line now.

Lia also told me the horse that I rang up about wouldn't be suitable for me. He was twice the price of the one she thought would be better, so I think she's very genuine.

Really liked lia when I went found her really straight forward. Rode a fab boy called Eddy bit out of my budget had a think about it for a few days now he's sold.:furious:
But have tried 2 today fell off first one!!!! Second was great! Thinking of putting in offer just having colly wobbles about taking the plunge into owning. Think I have thought more about owning a horse than having my two children hee hee

I'm in the camp of hearing good things as well, from both places. My safe cobs she does a lot more NH type training with them, and know she is very straight forward too. If I were to send my horse away for training I would have no hesitation in sending him there.
