My son has just passed his RDA proficiency test riding grade one.
He rides at wrexham rda centre Llanfynydd. He reieced an nice little badge and certificate and was really proud of himself. He passed on a pony called sonny. He really enjoys his once a week lesson which helps his dyspraxia and confidence.
If he is still interested in a couple of years time i have promised him a pony of his own that he can ride and Drive. My cob is too forward going for him and connors little sec a is too small for him.

Oh Wow!! I've seen the little badges. They're lovely. I bet he's pleased with himself!!

I'm back at Llanfynydd riding again soon. Went every week for about four years, until my hip op. Then I stopped. I shall now be going back for individual lessons. Group lessons are now not suitable for me, because my needs are so specific. I shall be with Many. And looking forward sooooo much!!

Anyway...not to hi-jack your thread......congratulations to both of you. The effort extends further than just that of the rider. I may see you there sometime!!:)

just a question how do you find out about RDA and if any have places?

I'm assuming my daughter would fir the criteria as she has autistic tendancies, global development delay, juvenille chronic arthiritis and hypermobility as well as a few other problems including memory problems. she is 4years delayed academically/understanding and is eligable for both disabilty living allowance for mobility and care.

i have never been told about her being able to apply to RDA though and she doesn't want to have lessons at a normal riding school as she doesn't think they will understand her problems.

At the moment she can ride my pony but it would be good if she could go somewhere for lessons as well as just me teaching her.

What do they have to do in the test? I have never heard of it? Could Nat do it on her pony? We are attached to an RDA centre but they have never mentioned it:confused:

You're probably a bit far away to come to our group, but I can get the number of the Essex County Chairwoman if you'd like? There's a very good group called Barrow Farm just outside Chelmsford. Can't remember if you're Chelmsford part of Essex or Colchester?

The proficiency tests consist of both riding and stable management tests, here's a link to our groups website, where we have put up all the information for the different tests.

Where it mentions demonstrating simple exercise the candidate has learned, this can be anything like performing "head, shoulders, knees and toes", stretching arms out to the side etc.

Dinsarsio - congratulations to your son, that's a great achievement :D I love the badges they get, one of our riders used to pin all his profiency badges to his hat silk, it looked amazing!
