but does anyone have any good make up tips for covering a cracking black eye?

I'm going out Saturday night and could do with hiding it rather than have people asking what I've done! Hopefully by then it will have lost a lot of the swelling and faded from the dark burgundy colour it is now - at the moment I think my only hope would be to buy black cream eyeshadow and go fully fledged Goth and if nothing else I'm too old to pull off that look šŸ¤£

For the record Luka REALLY doesn't like strong winds!

Oh goodness! Ice for the swelling then Yellow base toneā€™s neutralise dark/black circles best, or long hair in an interesting style!
 
Plenty of make up.

Ive just googled and it says apply green concealer first to neutralise then use your skin tone concealer over that.

Ive lightened concealer in the past by using sudocrem and mixed with a dark concealer I accidently puchased. Whether it would work for lightening the bruise Im not sure.

I can't grow my hair that fast šŸ¤£

It sounds silly but I can't bear ice on me, it makes me tense everywhere to the point where I physically hurt and end up with a headache. I can't use it for muscle strains or sprains either - my go to is Tiger Balm or a heat pack and I certainly can't use the first on or near an eye and I doubt I should use anything too hot either in case it draws the cuts above my eyebrow which are quite deep.

I may have some coloured bases hanging around from samples so I'll have a play and see what works, I actually hadn't thought of those. I certainly have green @chunky monkey ,and maybe a yellow somewhere. For once my habit of throwing nothing out may be useful :)

Hope you're okay, I appreciate it's not what you asked but I'd be leaving it well alone, black eyes are sore and delicate, especially if there are cuts nearby. It sounds like you did it good and proper šŸ˜­
 
No doing things by halves @MrA ! I'm hoping by Saturday it will have faded a good bit and the swelling gone down, certainly at the moment I'm not putting anything near it and I cleaned it up with a saline solution rather than anything medical. The cuts are knitting together quite quickly, one good thing about a good blood supply to the area is it does heal well despite originally looking like a bloodbath.

Despite how it looked, and indeed still looks, I'm fine just feeling a bit bruised and distinctly cross that I can't put a riding hat on to ride now the weather is improving a bit. I did try today but it's a definite no :(
 
For the recorded it had faded to reds and greens by Saturday night, though still quite puffy. A double application of tinted eye primer then burgundy eyeliner and a sparkly burgundy shadow evened out the look pretty well, and plenty of mascara detracted from the swelling. The bigger problem was hiding the cut above my eyebrow, foundation and concealer seemed to make it more noticeable so I took those away again and made do with pulling some hair forward and keeping it there with the odd fiddle. Apart from my friend who knew I'd done it no-one else asked how I'd got a black eye so I'm guessing it worked fairly well in pub lighting :)

@diplomaticandtactful Luka had a meltdown at a gateway in storm winds. The gate is chained so needs both hands to shut it, badly situated and space is very tight. Shit happens, and if I didn't wear glasses it wouldn't have been such a problem, but as it was they shot up and cut me quite badly above my eyebrow,

ouch ouch ouch, reminds me of the time when Leo tried to amputate my thumb at a gate.
 
@Jane&Ziggy dealing with Luka reactions like this are, if not inevitable, at least a risk to be factored in. It was gale force winds, I should have asked someone to come and deal with the gate for me. He's now in a small herd, and watching him it's clear his role is sentry horse - he doesn't miss a thing and if he has concerns he'll warn them and if needs be move them. High winds interfere with his hearing and everything is moving, that really upsets him and makes him jumpy.
