Please pray for Millie

She is ok today, sore, unable to stand, able to toilet with assistance of a sling. Having more pain relief and muscle relaxant. Having regular physio, legs moving well, just sore in her neck area obviously. Will stay in couple more days until she is more stable. Nothing concerning the team, expected to be worse before she improves

Went to see Millie today. The photos don't really tell the story. We did parma ham stretches, she can move her neck in all directions and get her nose right back to her ribs. She was kicking her back legs very well, her tail was stiff at first but by the end it was soft and flexible and moving. Her left front leg not working but the right one the paw can move. Her wound looks good.
She managed to do 3 minutes hydro and there is a video which i hope to see showing her paws on the treadmill and moving. She will be very tired.
While i was there she wanted to get up and in the end she managed to stand up herself, first time.
So today she made a lot of progress. She is fighting and interacting with staff more wanting attention and in hydro the feeling was this is a dog who can walk, won't quite at the moment but should get there.20230817_133717.jpg20230817_133723.jpg20230817_144603.jpg20230817_145918.jpg

Oh what a little fighter. Tons of get well vibes and crossed fingers for a full recovery

Long long way to go she was desperately bad on Tuesday, felt awful, i know we did the right thing with the surgery as the alternative was to just let her go but she was so down.

Bit of a roller coaster with Millie, our chat with vet yesterday afternoon, no not fit to go home, then when i rang this morning oh we are happy for her to come home.....but i have none of the stuff i need like slings as she can't stand solo etc.

Went down to see her bearing grapes or rather parma ham. She is much better than Thursday, still utterly knackered - done hydro again - but I asked if i could get her up etc. They have two people lifting her. I got her up solo standing and walking. Did lots of physio with her moving legs and paws. then I asked her to get up and she managed with help to get up twice and back down again. I think they were surprised I could do it but then hauling horses around you tend to be strong.

Ordered a sling harness for her which will be easier for me to use and more supportive for her. Some vet bed, some waterproof pads and will try with the cheap bed we bought as an emergency. If it doesn't work, will have to get a pucka one or try to find some gymnastic mats as they are big and quite solid yet soft. The vet ones are only supplied to vets and they said they have a lot of bother getting them.
So fingers crossed that I can poodle handle 26kg.

🤞 May the good news continue.....
yes going to be a long haul for her but they see daily progress, she is booked in for 4 hydro sessions locally so got that in place ready to go. just see how we go. I am so glad we didn't go down this route with Harrison's mum Kim 2 years ago when she was paralysed, the recovery given her arthritis would have been unfair. Millie is younger and as far as we know her skeleton is good, so she just has to recuperate.

hospital rang doing very well today, been outside and having her physio there, lying on back for tummy tickles, managing to go to the loo outside. Very bright. Tired but again getting better. Want her to have more protein in her diet so millie has probable sent in an order for best sirloin and tomahawk steaks....

Someone is home, bit groggy, finding it hard to stand, the harness we bought totally useless so ordered another one tonight, £160.....hospital really poor on aftercare, in terms of what beds do you need how to move her - use a towel - a 26kg poodle doesn't manoevre like that when she can't use her front end. she has had some steak and been told to up her protein to give her more strength. she has let it be known she is going to be noisy if left downstairs, so brought a mattress down for me as clearly i am going to be on the floor next to her.

better than me, that mattress is not that comfy on a hard floor and a snoring poodle plus sharing with another one who steals all the duvet

we toughed it out and she slept downstairs after much wailing. Sadly she had an accident over night so a soaking well and poo encrusted girl, no dignity, washed her and put her brand new comfort fleece in the wash. It's hard work, she is heavy to move. Got her out in garden where she had the runs, now in the office on a chair as it is her usual day in the office, i.e. she always is on that chair and she isn't getting anxious if we leave her.20230823_073408.jpg20230202_111350.jpg

A mixed day, she was good physically, the new harness helped a lot, and she managed to sit and raise herself to standing, and to stand unassisted. walking still a bit of issues with control and knuckling but she managed to come up the step into the house without being lifted

otherwise, very bad runs - on loads of meds - and wouldn't pee all day. almost a drive back to hospital last night as had her out 11pm and still nought. she woke me up 230am got her out but wouldn't then took her out at 6am when she needs her meds and she pooed - slightly more solid. put her in kitchen and her bed in sitting room she had peeed on the fleece so that is in the wash. Made up a new bed in kitchen and breakfast chef cooked her scrambled eggs.
