Please help me understand rug weights!

Question in the title really, what different weights of rug are there and which ones are classed as light weight, medium weight, heavy weight etc?

Im after a lightweight stable rug for Prince but dont know how much filling that is!!?

Can someone help me?..

Roughly, a lightweight is from no filling to perhaps 40grms or so.
MW around 200grm
HW around 350 - 400grm

All very confusing. I work in a Saddlery and the number of people wanting a M/W, but going by retailers, its a H/W

Personally, I would class anything up to 100gm, a lightweight. But something with no fill at all, just a rain sheet. Up to about 250gm is a M/W. Anything over a H/W.

Shires Reps have a completely different idea to this though... As do the WeatherBeeta Reps..

I go with

light-weight = no fill (or occasionally the 40g ones)

Middle weight is 200g

Heavy weight is 350g+

And then you have all the deniers

if your looking for a light stable rug i have a lovely 90gm (light) weatherbeeta jasper one. My horse is clipped with a high trace and just the 90grm keeps her toasty at nights highly reccomend it.
