So it's my 21st birthday in 10 days :help: and I am having a party at a near by pub/function room. Only having around 40-50 friends and family so nothing too extravagant but i'm having a few troubles on ideas for food.

So far i've decided to have:

Sandwiches and wraps filled with; cheese, ham, salmon etc.
Pineapple and cheese sticks.
Vegetable sticks and dip (more so for the children i've got coming)
Crisps
Pizza slices
Chicken goujons

But it's all of your standard stuff. I want something a little different and tasty. The theme is pink/princess  so have any of you got any ideas on what else we could lay on? I know how clever some of you are with your cooking talents... :nerd:

Those huge boxes of Indian party snacks from Iceland are great value - morish and fab for filling up the table without taking up to time to prep ! ( thats about as far as my cooking talents go sadly!)

Smoked salmon if you can get it on offer at Sainsburys! Tis a kind of pinky colour? You could make pinwheels with it - ie, get some cream cheese and wrap the salmon around it in thin strips (fiddly but tasty). I got some smoked salmon a while back and it was a really good offer - half price. Nom nom.

Just have plenty booze and they wont care what they are eating, well it works for me anyway.

Good point. I remember going to my first sort of drinks party after work at the grand age of 18. (It was our bosses that had put it on). Anyways, there was so much wine about which I wasn't used to, my friend told me I'd eaten about four dishes of Hoola Hoops - I think that's where my crisp addiction really started............:giggle: I didn't touch any of the other food. I think at that age I was a bit sceptical about any food that wasn't boiled or steamed (we had a very plain diet at our house!!)

Couscous with mixed veggies and beetroot will be tasty, healthy and best of all very pink!!!!! Clear plastic cups, strawberry jelly and when it's half set whisk in some yogurt, allow to set fully and top with a strawberry - again deliciously pink.
Jars of peppadew mini peppers stuffed with a teaspoon of Philadelphia are a favourite.
Mini kebabs to make cheese and pineapple more interesting - add cherry tomatoes, silver skin pickled onions, mini gherkins etc
Serve individual portions of savoury rice or couscous on mini gem lettuce leaves.
Ha ha can you tell I'm on a diet as its all pretty healthy too :)

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, most people will be interested in purely the drink haha which is fine, but for the bits of food I will have, I just wanted a few ideas of 'different' food.

For the kids, get some gingerbread men that they can decorate. This tends to break the ice with kids who don't know each other and keeps them occupied for a few minutes.

My boys just love crisps at parties. The more different types of crisps, the better as far as they are concerned.

In my experience, I'm the only one who eats the nice quality 'proper food' as everyone else just devours nuggets, sausage rolls, pizza, crisps etc

I'd save your money and go with a bigger quantity of the usual favourites which won't still be sat on the table only to be picked at by the really drunk!

I still think cheese, silverskin onion and Richmond sossies on cocktail sticks are fab!!! I did an alternative version a while back using small squares of fish finger instead of sossies - yum!
