Need some opinions please guys as i think ive over thought my little scenario today and could do with some outside opinions
Basically my beloved little fiesta is on its last legs now. It is around 13-14 years old now and its starting to show it.
I love this little car as it was my first proper car and ive had some great memories with it.
I have chucked ALOT of money into it to try & keep it going.
-New Clutch £200
-First MOT £300
-Second MOT £500
-Various Suspension works £300
-CD Player £50
-Seat Covers £30
-Window Tints £60
-Twin Angel Front Lights £200
-Lexus Back Lights £80
So a lot really LOL....but i just cant justify spending another few hundred to keep it going a little longer.
Its suspension has gone bust yet again in front & back...and makes the most retched noises when driven.
It also stinks to high heavens of burning after being driven...i dread to think what this is??
It needs the drive shaft replacing on the one side too, wheels aligning.
Oh and not to mention the fact the central locking has broken, the drivers side lock is really hard to unlock (So have to clamber through the passenger side :redface the seals on the sun roof & Wind screen are leaking, the rear screen heating doesnt work, the demister doesnt work and it has alot of scratches, bumps, dents on it
Now my collegues son (Who i went to school with) is selling his car, as he won £40,000.00 from betting and has brought himself a very nice new merc lol!
So his car is now for sale, which funnily enough is my favourite make, model and colour.
Its a Red Golf, Mark 4, X Reg (2000), 1.4 Litre, Mint condition apart from a scrap on one of the wing mirrors, 109,000 Miles on the clock.
He has just spent £700 on it this month to have 1 Year MOT, 6 Months Tax, New brakes/discs & Some general repair work it needed to pass its MOT.
I really do fancy this, BUT im not sure if the price is too high.
He said £1500.00 at first, and now ive got him down to £1200.
I am struggling at £1200.00, ive just about managed to scrimp & scrape £1000 together with OH's help (He deffo deserves a gold star for this :giggle
I explained this to him, that the extra £200 was a struggle. So he said seen as im a family friend i can pay the £1000 when i collect the car (If its okay to drive etc) and then pay the £200 when ive got it.
Very nice offer i guess, but is £1200 far to steep for it??
I do want it, as i know its history. Its been well cared for and looked after.
And i know they wouldnt con me.
I REALLY hate buying cars from people i dont know, i just dont trust anyone. Ive brought 2 cars before the fiesta all of which had to be scrapped because of the crap wrong with them. Even thought the Boyfriend i had at the time was a mechanic
Someone else at work has offered £100 to take my fiesta away, which im happy with. I will take the exspensive lights/alloys of it and re-sell those.
My dad has said that he was going to help me towards buying 'somthing decent' for a birthday present (21 in May) but i really doubt my little fiesta is going to last till then, its getting dangerous to drive now.
So do i stretch myself a little bit more, bargain abit, offer £1100 for the Golf?? The car that has been looked after and got all the MOT/Tax with it?? Insurance is £25.00 extra per month, which isnt that bad IMO. I have given up smoking so the extra money from that would pay it. Its also so much bigger than my fiesta, which is great as i have to get my own shavings/Hay at the yard. Also have a rarther big OH (6'5) and a big furry border collie. :giggle: we all struggle alot to fit into the current little car!
Or do i wait till May, risk the fiesta totally dying on me?? Bearing in mind i have to get to the yard twice a day and couldnt really cope without a car at all??
Orrrrrr do i just go out and buy a completly random car and risk having it being a pile of sh*t?
Sorry about the essay.....Glass of Vino to those who made it too the end
