Mane changing colour

Why is this happening?
Forest is chestnut (clearly ) and has always had this colour mane

Now his mane looks like this

Since that second picture was taken, the blond bit has got further up his mane, his mane is now almost half and half, and it looks like it is going to keep going that colour.

Is this normal? Could this be for a reason?
