This isn't just for barefoot or feet folk, so thought would pop here.

Today the farrier came and I kept one of her hoof cuttings. In the last eight weeks she has grown a bit more wall at the toe, never seen a horse do this so took a photo.

I have never seen that either, how bizzare! What did the farrier say, is it down to nutrition or what do you think. I would love Dolly to need that much taking off when the farrier comes. Still we have gone to almost no growth every 8 weeks to actually needing to be cut back now, so some improvement in rate of growth, but not a lot!

It was a result of this.

A little stone had gone in, it looks bigger as zoomed in. I must have missed it and the little blighter had embedded itself. As a result the cob thought hum well I need my toe so I will just grow a bit of wall over and around it.
Bear in mind that hole was only visible when hoof clipped off and out fell the stone.

Answering the amount that comes off the farrier leaves me foot to play with as he puts it as we do roughly 5 to 8 miles on the road a week.

I was amazed as well, if that was my foot it would get infected and I would be hopping around!
I always pick out the small stones but missed one.
