You can set Sungraph to your own location (you have to use degrees of latitude and longitude) and it will tell you exact sunrise and sunset times. It also beautifully explains the "analemma" - which is why the shortest day is not the day with the latest sunrise and the earliest sunset.
To illustrate: latest sunrise for my location is on 31 December, at 8:06 am (misery).
And earliest sunset is on 13 December at 3:54 pm.
So after 13 December I can cheer myself up by thinking "It is getting lighter at night from now on"!
