How long to shed out a clip?

Hello,

10 months into horse ownership and I realise I haven’t got a scooby about how long it takes them to shed out their winter coat... he’s out naked at the moment - he was clipped in Jan with a trace, and you can still see his clip lines very distinctly.

He’s shedding like billy-o, every time he comes in I go over him with a rubber curry, followed by a grooming block to get as much out as possible. He looked so beautiful when I got him in June (almost golden in places, with dapples <3). Went really dark in winter.

No idea how long it’s likely to take for him to have his summer coat and no winter woolies...

I think it depends on the horse and the weather for that particular year. Jack had a bib clip one winter and you could still see the lines at the end of June!!!

Jess was clipped at Xmas and hers is still very visable, she doesn't grow any coat really in winter (after the initial thickening up) so hers won't be gone until her summer coat has fully come in. I remember when we were showing I always struggled to get her fully into a summer coat by the first show the 3rd weekend in April but she was well into her summer coat by the one a month later

Probably May for us. By August she is shedding that for Autumn.
She is last to grow, first to go. So getting bald patches at the front end. She goes dark in summer.

Belle had a bib clip in early November, she’d already got the good thick undercoat of her winter woolies by then, her chest is now pretty much summer coat and you can’t see where she was clipped there, her girth area is a different story, still very obvious there. It will be another month before she’s got her full summer coat though.

Dark patches are summer.
Can't see much difference between her just done clip and the summer. Though what I took off was a mix of both.
