Holly?

Hi,

My pony has just moved into the winter fields and tonight he was eating the holly bush instead of the grass.

Just wondering if is it safe for horses to eat holly?

There were a few red berries too, which he wasn't eating - just the holly leaves.

There's quite a good list here http://www.horseweb-uk.com/features/plantmain.htm and Holly is on it. Maya has Holly in her hedge but I haven't seen her eat it. Could your pony have been eating some Hawthorne growing within the Holly?

He was definitely eating the holly and he seemed to be really enjoying it too. :frown:

I think I will fence off the field so he can't get to the hedge.

Better to be safe than take the risk.
