I don't know if the feeling is shared, but, the first pony I rode was a Highland mare at a trekking centre. I know most likely docile by nature, but I just felt safe with her. I've never encountered a Highland pony at a riding school since, not that I rode in a lesson anyway. I'd love to meet a Highland again.
Saw the Highlands (large classes ) at the Pembrokeshire County Show yesterday. After a lot of rain recently the main ring was extremely muddy. The ponies coped with it well, but I don't know whether it was the conditions under hoof or the Sec D Mare and Foal class that was taking place (very noisily ) next to them, a lot of the Highlands were certainly not the placid ponies that they seem to be
