I first had the vet out to check an unusual hard lump on her shoulder and he said it could be a bee sting or horse fly bite, but it hadn't gone down so I had the vet out again, this time a different vet.
He did a lot of examining and he thinks it may possibly be a kissing spine.
He said I have three options -
1/ Leave her as she is all well, not lame, and its not causing her any harm
2/ Get her x-rayed
3/ Get the back specialist out

or it may be a ill fitting saddle ...

Having a good think about it tonight

Aww lots of "could be's" there, its frustrating when you don't know exactly what is wrong. Hope you get to the bottom of it.

Any idea what you're going to do?

get a saddler out first and get the all clear from him, and then try the back specialist...
its definately cheaper then the xrays...etc and he could offer advice as to minding her and ensuring her backs stays comfortable...etc

i hope its nothing though...

Yup have had a good think as she is not in any pain or discomfort or lame or anything, first of all is I am going to put her back in her old saddle which isn't as cut forward and shouldn't interfere with the lump or irritate it.
I will also be using a thick saddle cloth and her prolite pad.
I am also putting her on this herbal movement which my friend has recommended to me and is supposed to be anti- inflammatory as well which is good.
And also this horsey massage person who is a friend of a friends who is going to have a look at her.

And if this fails I will have her x-rayed depending on if the swelling has gone down or if she is worse.

Would be very carefull putting her back in her old saddle, the one she has now is fitted to the shape she is now yes? Get a saddler out as she may well have changed shape, also a back person out, theres no harm.

Putting a thick pad under will just make her saddle more narrow, a good fitted saddle doesnt even need a numnah underneath.

He said the two saddles are the same fit, but he wanted me to use to new one because it was a newer version however I checked them both yesterday and the newer one is far too cut forward on her and it contributing towards the lump so I won't be using it again.
Plus I didn't like the saddle fitter he was very arrogant and I even made a thread about him as he annoyed me so much.

Was a friends idea to use a thick saddlecloth but I will be sticking to a normal saddlecloth and the prolite pad which was fitting to her as well.

She is going to be having some time off and I am going to eliminate what it could be before I have her x-rayed. He only suggested it was kissing spines but it could be something little as an ill fitting saddle, or maybe just something she has had before I got her but wasn't noticable when not doing much work and with her thick winter coat ....

Had been very upsetting for me as my friend who has a friend who was a back person said if it is kissing spines then if they have joined together over the years then if she had an accident then the joined spines could break and she would have to be put down. (Something like that I cant remember)
And I have had loads of people telling me different things.
I am not taking her to clear round tonight as I don't want to hurt her.
I am going to see if it goes down in the next two weeks and I am having a back person out to see her and if she thinks its serious I will have the x-ray and go from there.

The vet said it could be kissing spines because it would be sticking out a bit and causing swelling and brusing .... along those lines anyway.

I am praying it isn't but I have got myself prepared for the worst if it is.
Only an x-ray will tell though so I am going to see if it goes down first, also going to see if I can sort myself out a trailer incase I need to take her for x-rays.

I am playing it extra safe with her, she is going to have some time off for the next couple of weeks, going to be on this herbal anti-inflamitry supplement and will be ridden in her old saddle which won't be rubbing the lump.

Yeah there is a few I know which one I will be using next but at the moment I don't have enough money for fork out for another new saddle.
I have spent hundreds on saddles this year, and saddle checking and re flocking etc, and with no job till september (well I am only getting paid 7 hours) I can't afford to fork out again, as I know that they will try and sell me yet another saddle
But her old one does fit a lot better in the shoulder giving her more freedom.
I have even thought about getting a dressage one so that her whole shoulder is free to move more.
