Hi

So basically the title says it all. We are now once again horse owners after a 14 yr gap. I am now the proud mum of Arn my 6 yr old Friesian and we are going to learn together. I have joined the forum so not to feel alone in this journey really. You see lots of younger riders out there and some I'll be honest can be condescending. I admit that I need riding lessons, I admit I will need advice on schooling you cannot be out of riding and horses for that long and still say oh "I'm experienced". I know the way we interact with horses changes and moves on. I am happy to listen and re learn.

So yes this is me starting again at 47.

Oh congratulations! At least you have known what you are doing at some point - I got my first horse at 50 not knowing a thing. This forum was invaluable to me and I hope you enjoy it here.

By the way, let me be the first to mention that we love pictures. Pictures of horses.... 😉

Hi im 50. Just getting back into it myself.. i feel same in many ways as you... I will be posting for advice . Enjoy your new chapter and journey 😊

Hi and welcome and ditto the above, we love photos.

Everyone starts somewhere and restarts somewhere.
I believe we never stop learning anyway.
Lessons are not just for the rider, and even the top professionals have trainers. 😁

Hello--I'll be 80 soon and am riding my Andalusian schoolmaster at least 4 days a week. I just got a 3 yo Dales pony and haven't any idea what to do with her so I'm just working on lunging and ground manners. Good luck to you and Arn.

Another suggestion is a distance learning course aimed at the adult first time owner or horse lover such as Lingfield Equine Distance Learning (www.horsse-care.co.uk). I have to admit that I do work for them but I know that lots of people over the years have learned a lot with them and they are genuinely friendly and helpful.
