Dismounting bareback

That's the secret I reckon. I have just bought a 3 step step ladder to use for the time being!
That is what OH and I used to mount big warm bloods when we went to a posh dressage yard. The groundsman got it out of his cupboard.

I tried what I suggested.
It's easier to do a half scissors and lower to the ground than swinging the wrong leg behind me.
I swung my left leg over in front and turned to lower gently. You could land on the good leg that way.
Mine is similar build to yours so similar in height.

But both my teachers, YOs have believed it dangerous to swing a leg forward over the neck to dismount. They think one might topple forward, I imagine. I am not an owner so I have to do as I am told.

Would something like this work and also be useful for jumpies.

Someone at a yard I was at had some of these, good for jumps but although marketed as a mounting block they weren't very stable if you used the top step and it also wasn't very wide. A small stepladder or set of steps would be a far more secure option, particularly for dismounting onto.

How are you getting on.
I thought of you because I might have discovered that my leather strap thing might fit.
Since I last used anything gadget wise someone has kindly added a ring to the girth I use these days 😂
Ooh what's that for, well would you look at that, one end of your strap slots on. I just need a clip. 😊
It "might" fit now.

Thanks for asking @newforest .

I haven't been on since the first time because of bad leg days and crap weather, plus needing a foot soldier. But I have got a new stepladder with wide treads and a handle at the top which I hope will make things much easier.

Next chance will be Thursday, so let's hope the weather plays ball.

Will you use your gadget?

I bought a clip for it today so I can attach it to the girth.
I might be able to get the straps extended if needs be. My original idea might not work, I don't know if I would think to hold the handle part as I haven't ever had anything there before.
My current sales don't have the d rings situated for any stay straps.

I hope you are getting on OK Jane.

I thought of you today as I almost got stuck getting off as I forgot I had
saddle panniers attached behind the saddle and wasn't paying enough attention chatting away 🤣

@KarinUS , @PePo , @Skib , @diplomaticandtactful , thank you! I have been back at work these last two weeks which is exhausting (although Waitrose are being absolutely amazing and allowing me to work only part of my contracted hours BUT PAYING ME FOR ALL OF THEM) so I've only been on a couple of times. Sid is a total dude and looks after me and it's lovely to be on board. Pony Club kicks to ask for a canter when Sid is looking after me are quite hard but we got there!

My dismounts are getting easier and easier. My 3 step steps work well and Sid is good at getting close to them. I have physio and hospital again in the next couple of weeks and hope to get permission for (a) a saddle and (b) a normal dismount!
