Cheapest bedding alternative to straw...?

My mare has rubber matting but eats so much of her straw its getting silly

I've heard about Aubiose, Easibed etc but its hard to get an idea of relative costs and how they compare. Any suggestions on the cheapest...?

We use Aubiose. We used to use hemcore but due to a supply problem were forced to switch and haven't gone back to hemcore.

The initial bed can be expensive. Mine don't have mats so i need 10-12 bags to lay an initial bed. But after that it's cheap and low maintenance. We use 1 bag per bed to top up every week.

Can you give me an idea of how much it is a bale? Some people on my yard use shavings and get them for about £5.50 a bale - i'm just trying to figure out how the other compare and if there is anything really cheap that i'm missing a trick on
