How do you determine the best distance between cavelleti poles for your horse? Is there an easy way to determine this or a general rule for how much distance should be between?

Um, depends on size of horse and speed!
I reckon 3 1/2 to 4 feet for trotting poles for a big horse.
Put just two down, see what happens, adjust as needed. Much easier with someone else to watch and help!

I use them a lot at different distances to teach people the feel of lengthened and shortened strides...anything between about 3' and 4.5' suits most large ponies/horses
Don't use them on twos as many horses will jump that, at least three for safety
