Can we have a list of all the breed/'category' abbreviations please? I keep getting really confused and I can't be the only one (hopefully :p)

For example
WB- Warmblood.

Could someone tell me what an SHP is as well? :confused:Confused!

SHP is show hunter pony, one that is shown as a hunter, but doesn't jump in the class.

NF - New Forest
DWB - Dutch Warmblood
PB - Part bred
TB - Thoroughbred
CB - Cleveland Bay

Erm..will think of some more!

Not quite breeds, but abbreviations all the same ;)

SH - Show hunter
WH - Working hunter
WHP - Working hunter pony
HW - Heavyweight
LW - Lightweight

KWPN relates to Dutch warmbloods, but it means they're registered with the stud book society, KWPN.

It means: Koninklijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland (Royal Warmblood studbook of the Netherlands)

Basically very simple Lusitanos are Portuguese and Andalusians (PREs) are Spanish.

They are basically very simillar and the stud books only separated in 1960. PSLs are a bit smaller and more workman like. They are still bred predominantly to work, including bullfighting so more emphasis has been put on their agility, speed and bravery than their looks. I think they tend to have less impressive manes and tails.

One easy way to tell them appart is that PSLs are branded on the right flank and PREs on the left flank.

I could could go on forever about Lusitanos so I'd better stop now.

Collected all the above together:

WB- Warmblood
NF - New Forest
DWB - Dutch Warmblood
PB - Part bred
TB - Thoroughbred
CB - Cleveland Bay
ISH - Irish Sports Horse
SH - Show hunter
WH - Working hunter
WHP - Working hunter pony
HW - Heavyweight
LW - Lightweight
ID - Irish Draught
BWB - Belgium Warmblood
Han - Hanoverian
KWPN - Koninklijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland
PBA - Part bred Arab
PB Arab - Pure bred Arab
QH - quarter horse
SF - selle français (french warmblood)
SBS - belgian warmblood
OTTB -Off the track TB
PSL- Puro Sangue Lusitano
PRE- Pura Raza Espanola
HiPo - Highland Pony

To add:

CB - Cleveland Bay

Could someone tell me what an SHP is as well? :confused:Confused!

An SHP would be a Show Hunter Pony I suspect. It's not a breed so to speak as a classification - usually used in reference to a ponies type, and the most suitable show class for it to be entered in should it be shown. It's like the working hunter pony classes but focuses purely on the showing aspect - no jumping that is in the workers

Hope that helps x
