I’m in shock but Jess’ heart has recovered, and she’s been cleared for work ?

Quick recap for anyone interested, at last years MOT the vet found a grade 3 pansystolic murmur which made it dangerous for me to ride her, basically if the heart went she’d be dead before she hit the ground and they can give out without warning. Another vet confirmed it a while later. We had no expectation of recovery, and i was offered a referral to a cardiologist for ultra sound and ecg etc. but given her other issues it felt futile as there was no treatment it would have just been just to know what was wrong, so I made the decision to retire her.

But at today’s MOT it has all but disappeared, there’s just a hint of a less than grade 1 systolic murmur which wouldn’t even cause a failed vetting! The vet thinks she must have had a viral carditis that was causing it and has now resolved, as usual with Jess the weird, rare or impossible happen! To say I’m over the moon is an understatement, the relief is huge ?

In other news she may have a cracked tooth which the specialist will look at next month but it is Jessica after all ?

Oh @Jessey that is just wonderful. I am so happy for you both! Perhaps getting out and about will help her settle down, too.

I foresee you taking Niko for long hacks at the end of a double length lead rope....

He ain’t gonna know what hit him ? she’s not 100% sound just now from charging about (though light exercise normally improves it), and her lungs are still settling from the last asthma attack and with the dark nights and crappy weather I’m going to wait a while before doing any riding so I can be consistent once we get going, but I’ll use the time to start walking her in hand which should help her soundness and breathing too.

Wow, that is great news although slightly spooky because I had similar news today. The vet found that Ben had a hole in his tooth which needs root canal and further investigation to remove an abscess. But he also trotted Ben up and said that he was sounder than he had ever seen him and has cleared us to progress to TROT work. I'm so, so pleased for both of us. I woke up this morning to face 6 weeks of homeschooling and lockdown, and now I am planning a future with my horse that I thought had gone forever.

That’s really fantastic news ? time really can be a great healer, even when it feels hopeless, I’m so excited for you too.

Brilliant news @Jessey.
I could understand if youd have said niko has a cracked tooth from a kicking from jess. Wonder how shes done that.
It could just be a caries, but it was packed with food, so she wasn’t a 100% sure and erred towards a cracked tooth and if Lucy says maybe she’s normally bang on. It could well have been a caries that weakened the tooth and has then cracked, or just other age related thing, or very possible someone kicked her in one of her random attacks on them. Niko will need a booster jab next month so one of the specialists will come and do that and scope and X-ray (if necessary) Jess at the same time to keep the costs down ?
