Its not an equitrek - theyre called Newbert trailers. This one has full living, sink, hob, shower, lu etc and it £9000 (much cheaper than an equitrek.)

Also I've come across a trailer called XXtrail. Also side loading with living - they look like space age trailers but they start at 16K.

Anyone else come across anyhting similar?

What on earth would you tow it with?

At that price, I'd seriously consider a lorry. Unless you could afford to own a second vehicle to tow it with, you need to weigh up the cost of running said vehicle all the time, which will almost certainly use enormaous amounts of fuel, against the apparently highter costs of running a lorry...

(sorry, I'm assuming here that you're even thinking of buying it  )

Ross - I already have a 7.5 tonne lorry and the costs are ridiculous - tax Mot insurance breakdown cover, vast amounts of diesel and constantly having to jump start it on cold mornings is a nightmare. Also, I passed my test after 98 so it would cost me a further £1000+ just to be able to drive it legally (my Mam drives me at the minute). Therefore I've decided to sell my car (which is my going to be hard, its my baby, i love my car and there will be tears when she has to go to a new home) and buy a boring 4x4 and trailer. I need the living as I will obviously qualify for Badminton, Olympia and HOYS this year so I think one of these trailers is the way to go.

It weighs 1750kg. No lectures about the legalities of towing weights - I KNOW! It'll be fine once I've chopped Dan's legs off and attached helium ballons to his ears.

How do they fit all that living stuff in? Unless I'm looking at it wrong and you SQUEEEEEEEEZE your horse in the door on the left and live in the right???? :D

Would be fascinated to see the layout inside..... ?????

If you passed your driving test after 1997 you will also need to take an extra test for towing a trailer - have you taken this test?

Belle - No I have not but when I rang the DVLA the woman on the phone actually told me not to bother. Apparently on normal licence you can tow upto 750kg legally. Yeh I know thats not even my 17.2 never mind trailer etc. But this woman told me that I shouldn't bother, its a waste of time. She said if I ever got pulled over they would have to escort me, the horse and the trailer to a weigh bridge which is never going to happen as there aren't any near here. Seriously thats what she told me - I'm not kidding.

I think I'll put a thread out asking if anyone has ever been stopped pulling a trailer. Anyway, its no where near as expensive to do your B + E test (trailer test) as it is to get a licence for 7.5 t.

No Angel - Go to www.horseselect.co.uk and look at the trailers for sale (its the only one). You can check out similar ones at www.equitrek.co.uk

Never mind the legalities, do you have a vehicle that will safely tow it? You'd need something that could tow 3.5 tonne just to put two horses on. Makes my 650kg float seem like an anorexic runway model next to it :D Do you really need the living area etc ?

Not yet but I'm selling my beloved little sports car (my god there will be tears when she has to go) and getting something like a range rover or Isuzu trooper that can pull 3.5 T.

Yes I need living. I qualified for nationals last year and ended up not going as I had to share a trailer and in the end it was so much hassle trying to get the horses in the trailer with enough hay and the tent and camping equiptment squashed into the car that I backed out of going, it was an utter nightmare.

If you do not take that test you are illegal, uninsured, unvetinary insured, Would you drive a car on your own on L plates? If not then don't do this. If you would .... words fail me!!!!!

Are you sure there's no weighbridges between you and any of these places?

The towing test has been brought in for a reason. I can't believe you're even considering towing something of that size, no matter what you're towing it with, without taking it.

Did you get this lady's name? If so perhaps you should report her as I am sure people at DVLA shouldn't be encouraging you to do something that is illegal and dangerous.

just to pint out again if you have an accident, even a bump. the your insurance will be void if you dont have the legal brackets on your license.

And the police will not have to take you to a weigh bridge, they will know you will be over. The weight of the trailer alone is over and the traffic police will know this.

Also if you tow with a 4x4 with 8 seats or more (land rover defender) you will have to sit a minibus and trialer test before you can legally tow it.

It's okay you guys calm down!!!! I'm not planning on pulling a trailer I'm just telling you what the woman from the DVLA told me, like I already said...she should be sacked. Stop lecturing me - your not telling me anyhting I don't already know I'm just repeating what this woman said. The original thread was just out of curiosity to see if anyone had actually been pulled.

Zingy - HOYS, Olympia and Badminton - I was joking, I don't have a horse that can showjump against the Whitakers, take out Pippa Funnell and whoop all the welsh section D's at Hoys - I don't think this horse exists.
