Winging their way to new homes. We had just under 200 today, one died while here, one has a broken leg/hip. The others were so hungry. Usually they don't eat much once they are unloaded, they tend to just do dust bathing and wing flapping. They were really starving and thirsty, we had to keep topping up the water as they were so dry.

So that must be over 1500 we have homed from here now.

225 ladies and one lucky cockerel who managed to keep quiet and pretend to lay eggs......escaped from 46,000 The boy was so lucky, he would usually have been culled very early but he managed to hide amongst the girls. Some folks at the farm hid him till the girls were rescued - there were a few which were special needs i.e. totally featherless but most of them were in good condition. So sad for the others.

I still want to get a couple of hens but still needing my chicken coop repairing and proper fencing so they can free roam some garden. One day it will happen.

Hope they have a happy new life.
they should be ok mainly rural homes with big areas to roam in. We had 60 extra above the bookings as there were supposed to be 10 a crate but there were in fact 11 or 12 plus 2 boys. So a lot of folks took an extra few - i was going to take one of the totally bald ones - there was a really feisty one that kept escaping so we let her out in the hen enclosure to play but we ran out of hens in the end so she went with three others. We had one that was poorly and probably will die so the rescue took her to see if she would survive or not.

Ditto, ours came down in the winter snow, we had it all enclosed with waterproof mesh with a roof but the whole thing is in bits - got a quote to replace it £2400....
