Part livery/Assisted DIY costs

I am just wondering how much you guys pay for things like horses being fed/hayed, poo picking and being brought in etc as I am going to struggle with evenings this winter, and my friend, fearful that I might move to a yard that can offer these services has said she will help..

But I want to pay her, she wants to loose a cleaning client so it would be beneficial all round but I don't want to take the mickey? I would still be doing the mornings for her horse as well and I would do any rug changing etc for mine but its dark when I am there in the height of winter so I cant poo pick and ended up spending all weekend getting my share of that cleared last year so I need to work out some rates to ask her what she thinks?
 
Why don't you get the costs of a yard near you which offers assisted DIY and charge her the same? Many yards detail what they charge in terms of rug changing, bringing in, turning out etc.
 
Full livery, including all hay, feed, bringing in, putting out, mucking out, rugs on and off, poo picking £200 a month. However, they dont have to do all that all the time because I like to be as hands on as possible, but as its such good value I havent asked to be part livery which I am really.

Ah that's good to know, in fact that's very good now i think about it.. obviously I supply my own feed and hay and will do everything at the weekends and the morning feed run but I was wondering about the roundabouts of about £25 a week..
 
Ours are as follows:
Turn out £1
Bring in £1.50

Make nets/feed £1.50
Give nets/feed £1
Waters £1

Change rugs £1 per rug

Muck out £3.00

£2 to stand for farrier/vet

Do you mean a week? £200 a month seems hugely cheap for full livery!

Around here part livery is about £70 a week and full livery in the region of £120+ a week

So, I assume you muck out and turnout in the am. So she does the PM, bring in, feed and rug change, I would go for about £5 a day, as it's probably half an hour work. Then I would add in poo-picking, depending on size of field a fixed fee of £15/20 a week maybe, so a total of £40/45 a week?

Yep per month, and yes it is hugely cheap, which is why I dont take the pee and do as much as I can myself. Its a little scruffy yard on a farm, not much in the way of facilities but big on support and mates to hack out with. I love it.

Don't knock the facilities I miss that concrete you stand on every winter since we've had none!

It's not bringing in very often as they mostly winter out so its a feed and two sections of hay in the field.. Feed is left made up.. No rug change even if she is in as I am a terrible owner that leaves my horse in it over night although she does check her over... But yes that was my thought about poo picking on the other costs but if it gets up to that price it costs me more than petrol so I might just have to make her keep waiting in the dark for me..
 
I'm on a DIY yard and a girl there used to charge £2 for feed, rug & turnout in the morning in winter although we have 2 small barns (one with me & a friend and one with up to 5 liveries) and friend doesn't get on with the girl well (or like how she treats the horses) so friend and I are just going to take turns doing our barn in the morning. TBH we are on quite a helpful yard and mostly will just do field checks,t/o,feed etc in exchange for the same on another day! Not sure what is happening with regards to t/o in winter this year though, yard meeting next week!

probably about half an hour or so to do the two of them - fields about 4 acres so takes a little bit of time to get round... That is the primary thing I think, the evening feed is cancelled out by my doing the morning one really not the hay though although if we end up with big bales then that's irrelevant too...

Then I think your estimate of £25 is fair - based on £10 per hour or thereabouts.
 
My yard charges £2 turn out or bring in, £1.50 rug change, £4 muck out, £10 for the whole day (on top of DIY basic fee.)
 
Its usually between £1-2 for turn out/bring in....then again £1-2 per feed.....£1 for rug changing....

Im sure she will be welcoming of the extra money! :smile:
 
As a freelance groom I would charge £10 an hour for that sort of work, rather than pay-per-job.
