What do you buy a man for his 40th birthday??

Is he into his cars? What about a car hire day where they get to drive race cars or supercars ??

( I know I'd love that LOL!!)

Yes, he does like cars. That might be a good idea actually if I can find somewhere localish. His birthday is on a Thursday and we are both going to take the day off when the kids are at school/nursery and spend it together. I could book it as a surprise and not tell him where we are going....

My OH likes steam engines - so to ride or for a special occasion drive one - that's what his family gave him.

If he likes cars what about a weekend at mph in birmingham? Me and ex oh went every year. Lots of fancy cars and the top gear team do a stunt show. Tickets are pricey but totally worth it

You can drive fast cars at Thruxton racecourse which is just off the A303 in Hampshire so not too far from you. I bought a boyfriend a day there driving Ferraris and he had a blast.

This is a brilliant idea. My husband loves steam engines too and turns 40 in November. Thanks!

I think that this is what I will look into. He loves driving fast, but since we had children I have put my foot down big time on his old boy racing habits! He has been talking about the Audi R8 and he would love to blast it round a track.

Thanks everyone.

I think that he would rather drive than look at them, but I will look into it anyway. Perhaps he might like to do with his brother (it's hard getting childcare at weekends!).

Doesn't he need a horse?

He came down to see my horse last weekend because both my children wanted to see Ben, and it's hard to manage both of the boys and the horse.

When he got home he told me that he has been reminded why he doesn't like horses!!! I don't think that I will be able to tempt him down again for a good few months and I don't want to make him miserable on his birthday by suggesting that he actually sits on him. We have more chance of winning the lottery than my husband sitting on my horse!

I bought my husband a flying lesson for his 40th. He loved it, but luckily wasn't tempted to take it up as a (very expensive) hobby!

I don't tend to buy hubby anything as he wants for nothing and if he wanted something he'd just buy it for himself anyway!

So, as others suggested, I arrange days out to make lifetime memories. I don't go through any of the red letter day companies though, I work it all out for myself. I suspect the next one with be something like a meerkat experience.
