As some of you are aware I spent months not riding with one thing and another.... even my rider Sophie has been telling me to get back on.... Well today I was determined to get back on again no excuses. I took up my tack the long walk from the parking with my saddle getting heavier each step.

I de bureed and gave melody a brush off..... put on her brand new treeless Barefoot chereoke saddle spent quiet awhile fitting it to her sorting the right size girth. till she was looking fabulous if not a touch muddy.

I walked her into the grass school stood her next to the mounting block with my OH holding the other stirrup. The first time I tried to think about getting on I backed down.... then tried again for the 2nd time again my nerves got the better of me... well after all I haven't sat on my pony since since spring ( she was going to buck, rear shoot forward because of the new saddle...or the fact she s been turned away for so long.) everything was going through my head.

Third attempt after lots of encouragement from Sophie and my OH. I stepped on to the stirrup swung my leg over and we were sitting in the new saddle perched forward with nerves but Melody stood like a rock while my partner put my foot in the stirrups ( must note to myself bend the fenders a little) he put us on the lead rein half a lap of the school and I was relaxing into my Darling Melody.... so he let us go....I started sitting back and slowly relaxing to the rhythm of her 4 beat walk..... meanwhile Sophie got on our Savannah the Welsh cob and we had a very gentle plod around the school for half an hour......changing reins walking stopping backing up..... Melody was her usual saint of a pony self..... I had a smile like a Cheshire cat withing 3 mins and i haven't stopped smiling yet....

Absolutely love my Hairy Highland Pony, to me she is absolutely priceless :D <3 Gifted to me by a wonderful lady :D I will never be ungrateful for the day Melody came into my life :D

Its so nerve wracking when you have a break you have to start all over again rebuilding your confidence. I am so pleased I got on though. It was a lovely warmish sunny then over cast afternoon.

I can ride in the field most of the year round, here in Lincs...the ponies are busy eating the tracks down, so we will have the PP track to ride on during the winter.

Woop! Go you! Melody is nearly as saintly as my own boy :D Seriously, what a good girl she is, worth her weight in gold, and so glad to read you are back in the saddle after all the sh*t you and OH have been through in the last year or two :):)
